Wellness Clinic Schedule

Events calendar is empty.

Wellness Clinics are a partnership between the Delaware Humane Association and Concord Pet Stores.

Local veterinarians provide low-cost rabies inoculations at our many clinics held at various locations in New Castle County and Kent County (Dover) throughout the year. The DHA offers Wellness Clinics on site or in partnership with Concord Pet Stores.

Services available at Wellness Clinics:

  1. Rabies Vaccination: $15 each *
If a pet has had a previous rabies vaccination, the prior rabies certificate must be brought to the Wellness Clinic.
  2. Distemper Vaccine: $15 each
    Canine and feline
  3. Microchip: $25 each
Microchips offer permanent identification for pet/owner reunification.
  4. Bordetella vaccinations: $15 each
Since kennel cough is sweeping through dog populations in shelters, we think it is important to offer protection to the public’s pets
  5. Delaware State Dog licenses
Payment is accepted separately from the payment for vaccines/microchips

DHA Wellness Clinics operate in the following manner:

  • No appointment required – first come, first serve
  • All clinics begin promptly at time stated
  • Animals as young as 6 weeks of age may receive a distemper vaccine
  • Animals must be 12 weeks of age or older to receive a rabies vaccine
  • Vaccines available for cats and dogs
  • If an animal has had a previous rabies vaccination, the most recent rabies certificate with a veterinarian’s signature MUST be brought the clinic in order to receive a 3-year rabies vaccine. – NO Exceptions and NO certificates will be issued after the clinic.
  • No physical exams are performed at Wellness Clinics due to the high-volume of animals vaccinated
  • Cats must be in hard plastic or cardboard carriers
  • Dogs must have a collar and leash on
  • Retractable leashes are NOT recommended for use at Wellness Clinics due to the diversity and temperament of animals present
  • If your dog requires a muzzle to be vaccinated, owner’s should bring animal’s own properly fitting muzzle to clinic (Owners must be able to put muzzle on animal)
  • Accepted forms of payment – Cash or Check - (checks should be made payable to DHA)
  • If able, please bring driver’s license or ID with current name and address, as this will expedite the completion of paperwork

Reminders

Rabies among household pets may be avoided by taking the following precautions:

  1. Keep your pets away from stray animals and wildlife by confining them to your own lawn and by walking them on a leash at all times when leaving your property.
  2. Keep trash in tightly closed trash cans so as not to attract stray or wild animals.
  3. Vaccinate all dogs and cats against rabies on a regular basis-as prescribed by your veterinarian. This is the law.

* Effective Sept. 1, 2007 the State of Delaware has a new surcharge for all Rabies Vaccinations. We are required to send $3.00 for every vaccination given to a low cost spay/neuter fund. In six months these funds will support our low cost spay neuter program for low income residents and feral cats. Attached to this email is our new cost for vaccinations for S/N clients and Animal Assessments. Vaccination prices will remain the same for wellness clinics.
